A Portuguese Plantasy
Another year means another exciting adventure in Portugal! And this year we’re lucky enough to be joined by our good friend and author of the forthcoming Anything You Can Cook, I Can Cook Vegan, Richard Makin of School Night Vegan, as well as the incredibly talented and always charismatic Liz Miu!
This year, we’re headed to beautiful Cascais, Portugal to embark on a week of delicious vegan food, lots of fun excursions and an endless supply of laughter and connections. We’ll once again be staying at Casa Vela Hotel which feels like our own little tropical paradise right in the centre of peaceful Cascais.
Trip highlights include: a visit to Sintra to tour the historical Pena Palace, a traditional tile painting workshop, a Portuguese wine tasting (all vegan of course), cooking demos with BOTH School Night Vegan and Liz Miu, a city tour through Lisbon and lots of time to relax, connect and enjoy!
These are just a few of the highlights we’ll enjoy on this magical adventure through culture-rich Portugal and we can’t wait to meet you for yet another life-changing, fully vegan Plantasy experience in 2023

Getaway Highlights
Friday, May 19th: 3:00pm check-in at Casa Vela Hotel followed by welcome drinks and dinner party.
Saturday, May 20th: Walking tour of Cascais with lunch, free time and family dinner at Casa Vela.
Sunday, May 21st: South bank of Lisbon excursion with visit to Christ the King Statue, tile painting experience, wine tasting and dinner.
Monday, May 22nd: Family breakfast, lunch in Cascais, free time, cooking demo with School Night Vegan and family dinner.
Tuesday, May 23rd : Family breakfast, Sintra day trip with lunch, hike, visit to Pena Palace and stop at Cabo da Roca.
Wednesday, May 24th: Family breakfast, free time day, optional yoga class, second cooking demo with Liz Miu and family dinner.
Thursday, May 25th: Family breakfast, city tour of Lisbon, free time for shopping, cafes and gelato followed by closing dinner.
Friday, May 26th: Family breakfast followed by check out and goodbyes.
Our ultimate goal with these activities is to bring groups of like-minded, empathetic people together to connect, learn, grow and be inspired.

Richard Makin is School Night Vegan! “As a long-time foodie, I had developed some pretty good cooking skills, but turning vegan was a whole new challenge! I had to retrain myself to cook without animal products. It was a surprisingly rewarding learning curve! I’m now a food stylist, recipe developer and food editor specialising in animal-free dishes.” -RM
Liz miu
Liz Miu is a cook, baker and foodie from Sydney who showcases how delicious a plant-based life can be through her spunky videos on social media. She is the founder of Mylk and Bun, a vegan cinnamon scroll market stall, which is taking the Sydney vegan scene by storm! Liz loves connecting to her asian heritage through cooking and veganizing childhood favourites.
CATIA GARCIA
As an official National Tour Guide in Portugal since 2001, as well as being vegan herself, there is no one better to have on The Getaway Co. team in Portugal than Catia! The author of a book about her adventures called, “A Teia da Guia”, having the opportunity to learn about this beautiful country though her words and eyes is to truly begin to understand the soul of Portugal.
