What inspired you to start The Getaway Co., and what keeps you motivated every day?

The Getaway Co. was born from a mix of frustration and hope. I loved to travel, but as a vegan, I was constantly piecing things together on my own, researching restaurants, checking ingredients, advocating for myself, and still feeling like I was missing out on the deeper cultural experience. I knew there had to be a better way.

I wanted to create trips where people didn’t have to compromise their values to see the world, where food, ethics, connection, and joy could all coexist seamlessly. What keeps me motivated every day is seeing what happens when people finally get to relax into that experience. Watching guests form friendships, feel deeply cared for, and reconnect with themselves through travel never gets old. It’s incredibly fulfilling work.

What’s most important to you when designing a Getaway experience for guests?

Balance. I want guests to feel both nourished and excited with enough structure to feel taken care of, and enough freedom to truly explore. Incredible food is a given, but so is rest, joy, laughter, and meaningful moments that don’t feel forced.

When someone joins their first Getaway, what do you hope surprises them most about the experience?

How easy it all feels. Many guests arrive expecting to still have to “figure things out” and they’re surprised by how deeply supported they are from start to finish.

They’re also often surprised by how quickly strangers become friends. There’s something really special about travelling with people who share your values, it creates instant trust and openness.

What’s been the proudest moment in the company’s journey so far?

Honestly, the proudest moments aren’t tied to numbers or milestones, they’re the quiet ones. Hearing guests say that a Getaway helped them feel more confident travelling, that it changed how they see veganism, or that they met lifelong friends on a trip. Seeing our community grow into something that extends far beyond the trips themselves including alumni meetups, group chats, repeat travelers, that’s when I realized we’d built something much bigger than a holiday experiences company. We’d built a supportive and inspiring community.

What do you think truly sets The Getaway Co. apart from other travel companies?

We design everything with intention. From the food and accommodations to the guides we work with, every detail is chosen thoughtfully, not for convenience or trends, but for alignment.

We also lead with community. Our trips aren’t about rushing from place to place, they’re about connection with the destination, with local culture, and with each other. That sense of care and belonging is something guests say they feel immediately.

What’s one thing you want people to take away from travelling with The Getaway Co.?

I want people to leave feeling inspired, not just by the destination, but by what’s possible when you travel consciously and with a group of like-minded people. That you can explore the world without compromising your ethics, and that doing so can actually deepen your experience rather than limit it.

Where do you see the company in five years?

In five years, I see The Getaway Co. as the go-to global leader in plant-based holiday experiences, with an increasing number of thoughtfully curated trips and a strong network of local partners who share our values.

I also see us expanding into new collaborations with corporations, bespoke travel, and having an even bigger impact supporting local communities and animal sanctuaries around the world.

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?

Start before you feel ready, and don’t wait for permission. You don’t need the perfect plan, you need clarity on why you’re doing it and a willingness to learn as you go.

Also, build something that genuinely solves a problem you care about. Passion won’t replace hard work, but it will carry you through the inevitable challenges. And don’t underestimate the power of values, when your business aligns with who you are, everything feels more sustainable.

What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled, and why?

Everywhere I’ve travelled is special in its own way. My favourite place to travel on a regular basis is Italy for its amazing range of culture and experience, but Bali has a special place in my heart as it’s the destination that first pulled me way out of my comfort zone, and inspired me to start The Getaway Co.

If Amanda’s travel vibe speaks to you, check out our Tempeh Nation Celebration, Bali (where it all started) and Pasta La Vista, our Italy Getaway.

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favourite travel memories are when we sit around the table at the end of each Getaway and our guests talking about their favourite part of the trip, they generally think it will have something to do with the destination, but it almost always winds up being the connections they’ve made with the other guests. There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing that you’ve facilitated an experience that helps people feel supported and less alone.

Do you have any pets or animal companions? What are their names, and do you have any funny nicknames for them?

I have two cats who are very much part of my family. Casey is a 19-year-old Canadian cat who has been with me through so many chapters of my life, and Fritz is a 12-year-old Swiss cat who fully lives up to his name.

They’re constant reminders of why compassion and care matter so deeply to me and why animals are always at the centre of how I move through the world. Nicknames definitely exist and evolve daily, depending on their mood and level of mischief.

What’s your favourite recipe of your own to make?

My favourite recipe to make, is anything that tricks the omni’s into thinking they’re eating something non vegan. 😘😘

What’s something people might not know about you?

I started my career working in music in the early 2000s creating travel itineraries and media schedules for artists like New Kids on the Block, Kendrick Lamar, Enrique Iglesias and countless others. Now I do the same thing, but for our amazing vegan travel community, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Every trip The Getaway Co. designs is about more than just the destination. It is about slowing down, connecting with the people around you, and discovering new places through the lens of curiosity, compassion, and good food. Amanda’s vision touches every trip, even if she isn’t there in person, and her love for travel is woven into every detail you will experience.

Whether you are dreaming of wandering the streets of Italy, exploring the rice terraces of Bali, or discovering hidden corners of Europe, there is a Getaway waiting for you that is ready to inspire, nourish, and surprise. Every journey is a chance to connect with the destination, with the culture, and with a group of like-minded travellers who make it unforgettable.
